Good question… WRI (also known as the Weiser River Initiative) is a concept that TVPF would like to develop that would bring habitat and education to agricultural areas along the Weiser River Corridor. Here is a white sheet that was developed regarding this project. As you can see we have a lot of work to do!

Treasure Valley Chapter of Pheasants Forever
Subject: A Concept Document for the Cooperative Engagement of Private Lands Upland Game Bird Management in the Weiser River Valley.
Primary Purpose: To Initiate an Outreach Program Soliciting Voluntary and Cooperatively Managed Private Lands Participation for the Targeted Addition, Development and General Improvement of Upland Game Bird Habitat Using the Weiser River Valley of West Central Idaho as the Program Template.
Secondary Purpose: To Potentially Demonstrate a Workable Statewide and/or Nationwide Commpartmentalized Model Producing Measurable and Reproducible Results through the Identification, Evaluation and Promotion of Cost Benefit Analysis of Targeted Wildlife Habitat Based Resource Management on Private Property.
Primary Targeted Result: To Create a Landscape Scale Model Demonstrating Sustainable Success and Programmatic Popularity among a Geographical Majority of Participating Private Landowners Resulting in Measurable Enhancements in both Upland Game Bird Wildlife Habitat on the Greater Landscape as Well as the Cost Efficiency of Individual Participant Private Agricultural Operations.
Secondary Targeted Result: To Create an Outdoor Classroom/Laboratory, Educational and Interpretive Resource Management Model for University Studies, Students, Future Farmers of America, Hunter Education and Youth Hunter Recruitment.
Projected Time Frames:
Phase I: Years 1-2: The “Pre-Program Planning and Baseline Collection Phase” will target the:
Contract Development and the Collection of Seasonal Pre-Program Baseline Aerial Imagery and Documentation of Existing Cropping Patterns, Existing Habitat and Identification of NRCS Crop Reserve Program Acreages, USFWS Habitat Partners Program and Other Federally Contracted Acreages Already Under Contract.
Phase II: Years 3-5: The “On the Ground Implementation Phase” will target: Ongoing Field Level Program Model Development, Adding Contract Detail, Trial and Error Experimentation, Geographically Cherry Picking Initial Landowner Recruitments, Relationship Building with Agencies and Participating Landowners, Education and Outreach, Advertising, Securing of Active Enrollments, Creation and Actual Implementation of Initial Management Plans.
Phase III: Years 6-10: The “Increase and Sustainability Phase” will target: Focusing on Maintaining Existing Enrollments, Promoting Program Popularity and Success, Quantitatively Increasing New Enrollments in Terms of Both Enrolled Acreages and Newly Recruited Individual Landowners, Emphasis on Increasing Hard-Sale Enrollments, Improving the Developed Model, Improving and Finalizing the Contract Form.
